The Solo
Lucie Yerlès & Gaspar Schelck [Be]
Circus conference
The Solo presents itself as a hybrid form, navigating between a circus performance and a corporal conference.
Oscillating between popular science and spectacle, The Solo explores one’s relation to emotions during a circus performance.
Circus is a vector of strong and shared emotions. Why is that so? Why is it that the public enjoys watching an artist taking so many risks? What is it that creates empathy between the audience and the circus performer?
Based on social psychology and neuroscientific theories and on her aerial silk expertise, Lucie Yerlès seeks to deconstruct the particular relationship that is built between the audience and the artist during the show.

High up in the air, the artist transforms the stage into a cartography of your brain, in which she moves almost as if she were flying. Following her on this exploration is a pleasure for the senses as well as the intellect!
Lucie Yerlès asks the right questions and activates our emotions as audience members, exacerbated by the empathy her personality and generosity engender.
We’re happy to hear that a fork in the road or an unfortunate accident can also open up new horizons for our brains. In praise of imperfection, the show is profoundly human. He sketches the contours of a circus on the bangs of perfectionist blockbusters, while offering us a few samples where sound and light could rival Céline Dion concerts. In empathy, in sympathy, Le Solo manages to titillate our neurons, which are in for a treat.
The company
Lucie Yerlès & Gaspar Schelck [Be]
Lucie Yerlès and Gaspar Schelck are creators with complementary backgrounds, skills and sensibilities. On the one hand, a performer with a passion for neuroscience and dramaturgy, and on the other, a creator-director electrified by the lights and the aesthetics of the stage. This meeting will lead to a first collaboration, fruit of intertwined necessities, and thus in all irony… “The Solo” is born.
Thanks to this collaboration between theory and aesthetics, light and sound, scenography and meaning, The Solo breaks down the boundaries between management and stage, production and result, backstage and performance. Little by little the threads of creation of the show mingle with the threads of creation of our emotions. On our path of meta-analytical exploration, we go in search of our common functioning, as an artist, as an audience, as a human in connection with others.
