Corps à Cordes

Katell Boudrandi-Saj (Be)

interactive aerial show

A woman has her head caught in a knot of ropes. Suddenly, she begins to dance as if her body remembered a waltz that her mind had long since forgotten. We are drawn in, she guides us in building a trapeze, which appears out of nowhere, by tying together a few ropes and a metal bar. It stands only if held at arm’s length. We imagine the hands that held the ropes before us. In this landscape of taut ropes, the body becomes a wreck poised in balance, seeking support and counterweight. It is a gentle, intimate encounter, seeking a moment suspended in time.st un corps-à-corps, doux, à la recherche d’un instant suspendu.

The artist

Katell Boudrandi-Saj

As a circus artist specialised in trapeze dance, Katell graduated from ESAC in Brussels in June 2024. She has always had a keen interest in choreography and directing. Thanks to her experiences working alongside various artists, she is exploring contemporary circus in pursuit of authenticity and multidisciplinarity. In her work, she draws inspiration from poetic imagery, which she combines with the use of materials such as paper and rope, as well as costume design, to bring these images to life. She grew up in Aix-en-Provence, France, where she studied contemporary dance at the conservatoire and discovered the circus at the CIAM. She studied circus arts at the ENC in Montreal and then in Italy at the FLIC scuola di circo. ‘Corps à Cordes’ is her first production.
